If you happened to be in Munich, Germany last weekend, you might just have stumbled into Ishod Wair, Wes Kremer, Leticia Bufoni, Dashawn Jordan or Leo Romero. Not quite them usual tourists over there, but Red Bull Germany brought out some of the heaviest contest killers along with many a legend for this year’s POOL DROP event, and our Austrian dream team (i.e. Peter Mader and Hannes Mautner) went there to capture the action.
As a part of this year’s Munich MASH (also including, among others, some BMX, streetdance and wakeboarding events), the Red Bull POOL DROP brought a three day skateboarding contest onto Munich’s Olympic lake… No typo here, Schützi and his IOU Ramps crew, once again, did their magic and really constructed a whole floating skate park on the lake. Things got kicked off at on Friday, August 02, with the qualification runs, also including the wild card winners from Blue Tomato’s Best Foot Forward stop in Munich. The finals went down on Saturday, August 03, while we got to see some pretty heavy best trick sessions on Sunday, August 04. As for the women, Miyu Ito placed 1st, Roos Zwetsloot 2nd and Lore Bruggeman 3rd. Roos also won all best trick sessions. As for the men, Kairi Netsuke came in 1st, Angelo Caro 2nd and Dashawn Jordan 3rd. The best trick wins went to Alex Mider, Jake Ilardi and, once again, Dashawn. By the way, you’ll find quite some highlights in our instagram feed ;)
Throughout the full weekend, there were people watching the contest from little boats. Wes got one for himself, too. He also put on quite a show, didn’t take anything all that serious and proved, once again, why he is one of the absolute best to ever do it. Leo did Leo things and on a little side mission, he casually took on one massive Olympiadorf hubba for breakfast. Alex Midler got saved (kind of) by the POOL DROP’s private lifeguard, after a 270 noseblunt took him into the lake. There were flamingo swimming tires floating around and arguably the best beer in the world. Locals like Jakob Fischer and German legends like Jost Arens or Lea Schairer held it down, Christiana Maens und Lore Bruggeman skated man ramp during their runs and Madars spent a good part of his Munich days in a snake costume. Definitely a weekend for the books! Thanks to Fabi Lang and Red Bull for having us! We’re already looking forward to the next one…
