LOVE & HATE
Due to various reasons, Philipp Gürtler hasn’t been on the board all that much throughout the last few years. Hence, quite a pleasant surprise to see a new part from him. Filmed by Bene Schlosser, additional filming by Alex Pfeffer and guest appearances by Stefan Lehnert, Paul Zenner, Joscha Aicher & Manu Wolff. Down below, you’ll find a few more words on the part, that Philipp shared with us. Looking forward to see him skate more regularly again!
„During the Corona pandemic, the idea came up to film a VX part with Bene Schlosser. At the time, he was already filming a lot with Paul (Zenner) and Stefan (Lehnert), but mostly in HD. However, I really wanted to have another VX part, cause I still feel like the look of the VX just suits skating the best. At some point, I got the backside tailslide inward heelflip out – a one hit wonder, that took me quite a few sessions. So, Bene and I wanted to set out for an inward heelflip concept part. I mean, barely anybody really does them (laughs). But in the end, things would turn out a bit differently… I got quite into cycling – just like pretty much all the older skaters here in Munich (laughs). Up until then, I had only ever been skating and would have never thought to wear some sort of full-body condom. But well, things change and I got pretty passionate about cycling through the Bavarian countryside, pushing my physical limits and figuring out where and how far I could ride. Unfortunately, I neglected skateboarding a bit too much back then – apart from our yearly Super Fondo trips and maybe a clip here or there. And then, at the end of 2022, my whole life pretty much changed over night. I went on a wonderful trip to Costa Rica with my sister, came back and realised that something in my body was horribly wrong. Any kind of physical exertion would exhaust me for days – so much actually, that I could neither properly ride my skateboard nor my bike anymore …
… I went to several doctors and eventually, one and a half years later, they found a parasite in my body and removed it. I’m still not back on a 100% of my physical abilities, but I’m fighting for it and I’ll be getting there. By now, I’m able to cycle again and even skate a bit. I enjoy it thoroughly and I’m already looking forward to the days that I can do it regularly again. The part’s coming out now, cause I felt like the footage wouldn’t get any better and even though it’s anything but a completed project – let alone an inward heelflip concept part –, I’m happy to put it out into the world and have some friends of mine featured with guest clips. Thank you Bene for the many hours of filming and thanks to everyone who has supported me along the way. Thanks to my parents, siblings, nieces and all my family. Thanks to Salut Skateboards for the support over the years!“ (Philipp Gürtler)
