A Seven Day Trip Around Mallorca

Back in 2024, Simon Klinkertz put out a pretty tasty edit, featuring Flo Westers on some lesser known Mallorca spots. „Tapas“ left us wanting more, and thanks to the good people over at Brixton, Simon and Flo got to embark on another journey to the island and delivered an even tastier second serving, accompanied by some point-and-shoot shots. ¡Que aproveche!

Hey Flo, how are you doing and where you at? – Hey, Simon and I are at the airport in Mallorca at the moment. We just finished off a seven day trip around the island. Feeling a little sore right now, but all good (laughs).

How’d the trip come about? Must have been nice to be out there in the sunshine, while it’s all cold and grey over here on the mainland. – For sure! I’m lucky enough to have parents-in-law who own a holiday home on the island. So, I get to go to Mallorca pretty much every year, and each time I get here, I discover new spots. That’s why, two years ago, Simon and I went on our first filming trip here. We wanted to put out a full edit with spots that you haven’t necessarily seen before. That’s how “Tapas” came about, and well, the trip that’s coming to an end now as we speak, is basically a sequel. Thanks to Brixton, we could rent a camper van, and drive all around the island in search for spots off the beaten track: Palma, Ses Salines, Santanyi, Cala Dor, Porto Cristo, Cala Millior, Cala Ratjada, Son Serra de Marina, Alcudia, Soller, Andratx, Santa Ponca, Magaluf, and back to Palma. We had quite a spot map already, but mostly, we would just drive somewhere, park the van, push around town, and skate whatever we would find. Occasionally, we’d get busted – “privado, privado” –, but in general, things went pretty smoothly. I mean, a bust here and there is what you get, especially when you try to skate spots that have not really been skated yet – or at least not very often.

Any highlights spot-wise? – Cala Ratjada is where my parents-in-law got their holiday home. I had felt like I knew all spots in town already, but Simon and I managed to find two new ones even there. And there is the beach town of Son Serra de Marina, that got these two perfect plazas just across the street from one another. I was really stoked on those, cause it meant I only had to get warmed up once (laughs).

Sounds lovely. How old are you by the way, and how sore are you now, after seven days of skating non-stop? – I am 32, and well, my legs are definitely not what they used to be five or ten years ago. But I kept it up somehow (laughs). We were pretty lucky with the weather, too. So, we could skate every single day. Just on the second last day, we had some rain in the afternoon, and honestly, I didn’t really mind. We couldn’t find a single good spot in the town we were at, plus, like that I could regain some energy for the last day – and eventually, that was really worth it.

Could you tell us a bit about the last seven days of van life, and about your last day of filming? – We would always camp somewhere at the sea side, wake up early, have some breakfast, and then drive to the next town. Push around town, find and hopefully skate some spots, stack up on food and drinks at a supermarket for lunch, and skate again in the afternoon. It would get dark pretty early, between 5pm and 6pm. That’s when we would pack up, get back to the van, and drive out to the sea side again. Check the footage from the day, have some dinner, make a plan for the next day, hang out a bit, … and do it all over again the next day. As for the last day of filming, we actually had two spots in mind. The first spot was pretty hectic, actually. A super quick setup and loads and loads of people all around. I still managed to get a line pretty quickly, and then, one-upped myself directly after on the next try. Simon killed it on the filming, and we decided that we would not need to hit the second spot anymore. I mean, how to better end a filming trip than that? So, we granted ourselves a table at a Tapas restaurant (laughs).

Well deserved! From van life to real daily life now: What’s waiting for you back in Germany, once you get off that plane? – I’m a happily married man, and my wife and son will be waiting for me back home. Already looking forward to seeing them. Big up to my wife, she’s so supportive of me still going on trips like that – and of my skating, in general. I mean, there were like five or six years of my life that I basically managed to live off skating. These days may be over – I work as a facility manager/repairman in a bio dairy plant in the village where I live, and I’m obviously trying to spend as much time as I can with my son –, but skating’s still so much fun. Actually, my son’s developing quite an interest for skating, too. So, let’s see where things will go from here.

Nice! So, he’s skating already? – Yeah, he’s down to skate, for sure. Maybe, we’ll go on tour together in a couple of years, who knows (laughs). Fingers crossed! Any shoutouts? – Thanks to my wife, thanks to all my sponsors, thanks to skateboarding, thanks to Mallorca Campervan Experience, and extra thanks to Simon, Brixton and you guys!
