It’s nice to have a place that transports you back in time, to the good old days. The Margarethen Ice Stadium in Basel sometimes feels like my own personal time machine. I can only fully use it every other year by organising the ESC Basel skateboard event and it doesn’t always work perfectly. This August the time machine was in really good shape and brought me back to the glory days of European Skateboard events.
Of course times have changed and fortunately time travel isn’t real (yet), but the 2025 edition did get close to what we wanted this particular skateboard event to feel like. It had most of the ingredients from the original recipe like a fun street course with creative extras, top notch skateboarding, people gathering from all over the world, a sunny summer weekend, a big crowd and a place for skateboard culture to manifest.

As for the women in 2025, Mila Coolen (BE) came in first, Daniela Terol (ES) second, Ivet Terol (ES) third, and Liv Broder (CH) fourth. As for the men, Mauro Iglesias (AR) took the crown, Matias Del Olio (AR) came in second, Max Berguin (FR) third, and Rocco Müller (CH) fourth. 1.500 spectators. Yet another one for the books. Thank you everybody for jumping in the time machine with us!

There’s plenty of seats in the time machine so I hope we can travel back to the future with an even bigger crew in August 2027 for the next trip to ESC Basel! Thank you skateboarding for connecting the past, present and future!
